Making the Word of God a way of life
For years I wanted to know HOW to read the Bible. I went to every Preacher I knew and asked the question. I received answers such as, "read it all, it's all good", and for me that wasn't good enough. I wanted to know, as a new Christian, how to read it. If I started in Genesis, (which is the way you start a book), that was OK, and Exodus was also good, but when I got to Leviticus (The book of the law) I died.
It was then that the Lord showed me a way in which I could know His word and it wasn't that hard. Below I have outlined a way to read the Bible. Remember, your mind is like a computer so you have to fill it with something. Fill it with God's Word.
The Plan
1. Reading God's word is not something our flesh desires, but our faith is built through our spirit hearing the Word. (Rom. 10:17)
2. Determine in your spirit that you will commit yourself to this plan.
3. Pray that God will reveal the word to your spirit each time before you read.
4. Choose a translation of the word that you can easily under stand. (The Living Bible is a good starter....It is NOT a study bible.)
5. Stay with the plan for six months, no less. Don't try to study the word while participating in this plan, this is a programming stage in your walk. The bible says the Spirit will bring to your remembrance the things you need. (Joh. 14:26) (They need to be in your brain first in order to bring them out.)
6. Stay out of the Old Testament during this time. The New Testament is life to your spirit so stay there for the six months. If you want to study a scripture or passage, do it at another time not during time you set apart for this plan!
7. Read nine chapters a day, read it like a novel, don't follow inclinations to stray from the pattern of this plan. When you finish this plan, you will have read the entire New Testament in thirty days. When you finish one reading through, start over again. Do this six times, this in important! Psychologist say that if you repeat a thing six times you will still only remember 60% of it! If you miss several days of reading do not fret, just make sure you complete the entire plan.
8. IMPORTANT! Should you fall behind in this plan, do not try to make up the difference. This will tend to make you discouraged and quit, just pick up where you left off and keep going!
9. Read according to the following order of the books: I feel the Lord gave me this order to separate the four Gospels and the three most controversial books, Romans, Hebrews, and Revelations.
