Our First Grandchild
I was there when you were born On that quiet afternoon,
Christmas was o’er with the New Year approaching The shoppers had all gone home.
Celebrations were about to start To usher in a brand New Year
But our celebrating took new meaning When our first grandchild did appear.
I held you close Ryan and looked in your eyes Poppy’s Little Buddy you were
As I whispered the same I detected a smile And knew that you had heard.
As you grew, I saw a young man A man with the call of God
Quiet and handsome, faithful and true, Following His Holy Word.
As you go through life I’ll have no fear You can be what you want to be,
But for me, my son, you’ll always be…My little “R.G. McGee”.
