Receiving All That Jesus Has For You
I could have named this teaching “Giving and Receiving but you might not have picked it up. There has been so much hype on television about “Send me your money”, or “Make a seed faith offering”. I don’t want you to take me wrong on this for I do know that many of the preachers are sincere, it’s just that I feel that if God ordains something He will sustain it.
Does this say that we don’t have to give to the Lord’s work? NO! God has made certain laws to govern the working of this universe such as gravity, physics, and yes, giving and receiving. I want to explain what God says about the subject where you the reader may grasp His meaning and then see that you can give with a giving heart and Receive All That God Has For You.
God’s plan for you is to prosper and be in health. 3 John 1:2. God's plan for prosperity includes everything. Yet, too often, we associate prosperity with just money. Money is a part of prosperity, but only a small part.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
God wants nothing but good for His people so He tells us how we may receive all that He has for us by giving away everything we have and everything we are. I am not saying that you go out and give everything to the poor, but, what I am saying is that you have a heart of giving. When you are a giver God wants to outgive you!!
Along with giving comes the other part, receiving. Many people are able to give but don’t want to be on the receiving end. The problem is, you can’t have one without the other. It’s like breathing, you can’t exhale unless you inhale and visa versa.
Receiving from Jesus always starts with giving. When you came to the Lord you had to give Him your life and your all and He responded with eternal life and life more abundantly. To prove this point He gave us over five thousand promises in the Word of God, these are for His children.
The heart of God is a heart of giving, not taking or keeping. God commands us to give, (this pertains to anything, goods, services, gifts, abilities, etc. . .) You see, God knows that the law of giving will prosper us. I know that does not set with the majority of folks but I have found through experience that it does!
When we give to one another, freely and without conditions, sharing our blessings with others and bearing each other's burdens, the giving multiplies and we receive far more than what was given. Even when there is no immediate prospect of return,
God is looking for a willing vessel.
In (Exo 35:5) God says to take an offering from a willing heart. “Exo 35:5 Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD”
In (Exo. 35:29) the children brought willing offerings to the Lord. “The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses.”
In 2Cor. 8:12 the Lord says that there must first be a willing mind. “For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.” God is looking for a willing vessel. A vessel that He can use for his Glory. God didn’t hold back when He gave the very best He had and neither should we. What have we got that God didn’t give us?
I always thought that a vessel was like a pot or pan or bowl, I didn’t give thought that the garden hose is also a vessel. When you pick up a hose after having not used it all winter and you turn on the water it is likely that nothing will come out for a mud nest has been built inside. You take something and break up the nest and when the water starts it usually comes out smelling badly. It has lain inside the hose all winter and stagnated. We are much like a garden hose with money. When we hold on to it stagnation sets in, but when we let it go the flow starts. As long as there is water going out of the hose water will come in the other end! As long as you have a willing heart and give of your substance “...God will pour out blessings upon you that you won’t even be able to take in.” (Mal. 3:10). To give you an example of what I just said let us look at the words of Jesus, “ Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38)
What better example than Jesus Himself
Jesus gave us an example in (Luke 9:12-17) Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, "Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages am countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here." He replied, "You give them something to eat." They answered, ''We have only five loaves of bread and two fish-unless we go and buy food for all this crowd." (About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." The disciples did so, and everybody sat down. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. “Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets”. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.
It was obvious that there was a definite lack present here. Jesus didn't look at the lack, rather He looked on the supply or supplier of all His needs. In 1 Kings 17:10-16 Elijah went to a poor widow that was gathering sticks to use the last oil and meal to make cakes for she and her son and then die for she had no more. Elijah asked for the cakes and she willingly gave it to the man of God and the Lord gave her an ENDLESS supply of oil. You can’t outgive God! When you hold on to it then God will take away even that that you have.
Take a look at Jesus’ parable of the rich man that gave money to his servants and went on a trip. Mat 25:14-29 “ For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strewed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strewed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto everyone that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
When he came back he took accounting of them. Two of the servants took what he had given them and blessed it and put it to work. They doubled what he had given them but one hid it away until the master came back. The master was angry with the slothful servant. If you understand, giving results in receiving.
The law of giving is like any other law of God, (gravity, mass and energy, sowing and reaping, etc.). It works every time, whether we believe it or not, or whether we want it to or not. In (Luke 12:16-34) we see something strange, we see it working for the heathen as well as the Christian. You see, when God makes a law, He doesn’t just do it for the Christian, He does it for all of His creation. When you give you will receive, if you drop something it will fall, if you push something, it will resist you, and what you sow you will reap. . . It’s a law.
What about tithing?
Many will try to tell you that tithing is not a new testament command for it is only found in the old testament. The reason for this is they don’t want to part with their “hard earned” money. They think that it will be wasting it or the preacher will get it all. “That’s all they ever preach about.” They may not realize that it takes money to spread the Word around and get people saved. God is willing to supply all and more if He knows He can trust you with it. In Phil. 4:19 He has said that He would supply all your needs “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”. So what is the extra money for? It is for putting back into the kingdom.
I have heard people say that there isn’t enough money at the end of the month to pay tithe. I have found what you might call a key. If you pay God first then He will make sure that everything else is taken care of. I don’t understand how it works, I only know, it works! Don’t be a “God robber” as it says in Mal. 3:8 “ Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.” Remember what Jesus said, “Give and it shall be given unto you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together will men heap to you”. Wow! (Luke 6:38)
Now for the New Testament on tithing. When we read let’s take a look at (Luke 12:42). “But woe unto you, Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. “ “These ought ye to have done”. The Lord was telling them that they should tithe but not leave out judgement. I have seen people who have a spirit of giving. They are always giving out but they are blessed abundantly. If you keep the end of the hose open God will continue to pour into the other end.
God's rules on giving:
2 Cor. 8:9-15 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. : And here is my advice about what is best for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, as it is written: “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.”
God doesn’t care what you do. . .He cares what you are! God looks on the heart and not the actions, for the actions will follow the heart. Mat. 12:34; Luke 6:45. “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh”. God wants the attitude of His people to be right. It all starts with a willing mind, not grudgingly or under a feeling of duress.
Many people have thought that they were doing a great work for God when in fact it was for the recognition they would receive. You see, here is a wrong motive. The Pharisees were good at this. Jesus was always calling their hand for their hypocrisy.
MAT 6:1-4 “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you openly.” Don't do it for what you can get out of it.”
Jesus' main attitude was that of giving;
MAT 10:8 “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”
2 Cor. 9: 6-8 shows what will happen in reverse if you don't believe the law. “Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you so that in all things at all times having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
You can't outgive God
No, you can’t outgive God, but, use wisdom in giving. We are to be good stewards of what God has given us.
1 Cor. 16:2 says that we are to give as God has prospered each of us. “On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.”
Giving has nothing to do with tithing. Tithing is required of us. If we don't tithe we are considered to be robbing god. However, giving, on the other hand, must be done with a cheerful heart because you love Him and want to be a channel of His blessings. Because of this you will give freely of your time, ministry, gift(s), possessions, money, etc. Remember, god looks on the heart to determine your motive. So have the right motive, follow God's leading, then give of yourself freely.

In conclusion we must understand that all we have is from God anyway so everything belongs to Him

Now for the New Testament on tithing. When we read let’s take a look at (Luke 12:42). “But woe unto you, Pharisees!
